My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

 My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

Squeezies!! Aw, I missed you! It was so important for me to focus just on my family this week. It’s been a sad, happy, rough, inspiring, overwhelming week. I’ll leave it at that. And a reminder to hug and kiss your loved ones and let them know how you feel about them — NOW.

I’ve shown you my fruity kitchen before (it’s been defruitified a bit since that post). I had a goal to just have FUN with the Christmas decor in our kitchen this year. That’s what I kept in mind when I scoured the after Christmas sales last season.

I only purchased a few new things this year for the kitchen – a couple of dollar store plates (perfect in red and white!), and salt and pepper shakers ($3 for the pair at Walmart!)

My fruity kitchen at Christmas! My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

Oh yeah! And my Believe blocks from Amanda’s shop at Imperfectly Beautiful. I LURVE them!!: My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

The rest I bought on clearance last year or I’ve had for years. When I find something that works, I keep it and try to use what I have to change it up year to year. This cloche and pedestal (from Hob Lob) is always in our kitchen, and this year for the holidays, I just changed the ornaments to a variety of red ones:

My fruity kitchen at Christmas! My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

I always swag garland around the door. It has candy pics, berries and red bows throughout. And the wreath is usually slightly different every year:

My fruity kitchen at Christmas! My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

This year I went with all red and a sparkly Dollar Store ornament in the middle. I covered the wreath hanger with ribbon using the hot glue gun. icon wink My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

Last year I found an old, gross wood thing at Goodwill. I think it said “country” or something like that. It was kind of grody. icon smile My fruity kitchen at Christmas! I transformed it with my Santa Red paint, some fun paper and foam letters:

My fruity kitchen at Christmas! My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

Oh yeah, and I hang Dollar Store snowflakes in a few windows. Do you see a trend here? (Dollar Store love?)

I took some little blocks of wood from Goodwill last year and made a cute little Jingle sign as well:

My fruity kitchen at Christmas!Above the cabinets, I used my regular greenery and wrapped it with red lights and ribbon. I also threw in some red and white beady pics and huge ornaments I’ve had for years and never known what to do with. They are perfect here!:

 My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

(My camera was taking some crapola pictures today, sorry!)

I fell in love with these little felt trees from the Dollar Store last year, and only was able to grab the last lonely one. Amanda sent me two more – isn’t she fantastic?? I big fat puffy heart love her!

 My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

It’s fun. It’s festive. It’s exactly what I had in mind. icon wink My fruity kitchen at Christmas!

Hope you have a great weekend! I hope to finish up an adorable Christmas craft to show you later this weekend. It should be cauuuute!

DIY or DI-Buy?

Hey hey! How was your weekend?! We had a great one!

I worked on a project I’ve been wanting to try for awhile now. Our backyard redo is finally finishing up this week…and it’s been a long time coming. icon smile DIY or DI Buy? The landscaper and his team have done an incredible job and stayed right on track, but we’ve had many, MANY issues with the deck and staining it (which I’ll tell you about soon) and it’s pushed things back quite a bit.

I’m hoping I can show you the deck (finished) and the patio (finished) later this week or early next. Of course now that I say that, some random, freakish storms will come through and push it all back again…but I’ve come to expect that. icon wink DIY or DI Buy?

Anyhoo…the patio is mostly done, and the outdoor fireplace is DONE and it ROCKS OUR WORLD! I’ve been trying to find a coffee table to place in front of the fireplace – we have some chairs set up around it and I knew a table in the middle would be the perfect set up.

So I went to a bajillion stores and of course…nothin. It’s September, after all. That’s like trying to find Christmas decorations in August. Well…wait. Not really. Cause that you can find.

But anyway, it’s impossible.

So I decided to make one. Our landscaper had plenty of pallets so I decided to recreate this project:

 DIY or DI Buy?(source)

I’m digging the slightly rustic, industrial look right now, and I love that it was large and in charge and it rolled. I’m obsessed with things that roll right now too, if you couldn’t tell.

So I got two pallets (free):

 DIY or DI Buy?

Then cut down 4 x 4’s to the height I wanted (four inches) for the legs:

 DIY or DI Buy?

I turned the top pallet over, as you can see. I attached the legs with brackets:

 DIY or DI Buy?

I attached the bottom part of the bracket first (onto the pallet), then put the leg in and then attached the sides of the legs.

Then, I turned it over and put it on top of the second pallet to make the table.

Because I couldn’t attach the bottom part of the brackets the same way I did before, I would line up the legs, place the brackets where they went, and then prop up the top part of the table while I screwed in the brackets:

 DIY or DI Buy?

Does that make sense? I did that for all four legs, then placed them all back into their brackets, and then attached the brackets into the legs.

Are you with me? icon wink DIY or DI Buy?

Then, because I was trying to use what I had, I found some honkin’ washers from my stash to attach the casters:

 DIY or DI Buy?

I had to use the washers because the holes on the wheels were too large. The washers are ridiculously large and look goofy so it’s a good thing they won’t be seen. icon smile DIY or DI Buy?

I sanded it down to prepare it for a dark stain:

 DIY or DI Buy?

Annnnnnnnd…I didn’t like it. OK, not really. I mean, it looks fantastic. I love it – it just wasn’t going to be right for the patio.

I kept standing there trying to convince myself that it would work, but I just knew it wasn’t the look I wanted. It has some rough edges and is way dirty (underneath) – which I was OK with because it was going to stay outside. But I didn’t want to worry about the Bub playing around it either.

And it was just a tad too rustic for me.

Then the most important little detail came to me – uhhh…the table is wood. The fireplace has fiyah. Fire and wood – not a good combo. I mean, the fire isn’t shooting out, but the occasional ember will, and I don’t want to have to worry about that.

Why do I think of these things AFTER I spend an hour on a project?

So…it was on to plan B.

On a total whim I called a Menards about 30 miles away to see if they had more of the set we had already purchased (on clearance) a few weeks ago. None of the stores around us had any pieces left…but this location did. I couldn’t believe it!

I got a great little coffee table for $50-something and it matches our furniture exactly:

 DIY or DI Buy?

Usually I’m not a “buy the whole set” kind of girl, but in the second week of September, I’m not pushing my luck. I bought that baby up FAST.

But one little issue was bugging me – it was too tall. Too high coffee tables are one of my biggest pet peeves. They are right up there with parking lots that don’t connect – HATE THAT.

Seriously…hate. it. Aren’t you glad you’re not me?? icon smile DIY or DI Buy?

So I decided to take care of that myself. I cut down the legs with my plumbing tool:

 DIY or DI Buy?

I showed you how I use this baby to cut down my curtain rods here. It works like a breeze!

First I took the little feet off the table legs:

 DIY or DI Buy?

Then I measured five inches from the bottom and marked the measurement. I usually put some blue painters tape around the metal so I can clearly see where my mark is:

 DIY or DI Buy?

You just tighten the cutter around the metal and then turn it around and around – with every rotation, tighten it just a tad, and after a few rotations, you’ll get this:

 DIY or DI Buy?

A perfectly clean cut! It’s SO easy!

I pushed the little feet back in:

 DIY or DI Buy?

And now we have a much lower (it was 22 inches high, now it’s 17) outdoor coffee table:

 DIY or DI Buy?

I love it! It’s perfect! I find lower tables make a space feel much more intimate. And you can put your feet up on them much easier. That’s the main thing. icon wink DIY or DI Buy?

Here’s a sneak peek of the patio – it’s SO awesome, I can’t wait to show you!:

 DIY or DI Buy?

(The Bub had set up a picnic for us. Sweetie pie!)

So…that was my long road to a table for the patio. The good thing – both projects were easy and super fast. The pallet table took less than an hour to put together, and the coffee table adjustment took about ten minutes.

And now I have a pallet table for sale! Ha! No, for real — if any of you local Indy folks are interested, let me know. If not, I’ll take it apart and use the parts for a later project. icon smile DIY or DI Buy?

Have you started something that ended up all wrong? How did you fix it? Trash it? Walk away? Is it still sitting there? icon wink DIY or DI Buy? Sometimes store bought is just right — even if you do have to make a few little adjustments to it!

I will show you the whole space SOON!

Thrifting “lady date”

Hey all! Thanks SO much for all the wonderful comments and emails about our sweet Peanut! Many of you asked, and he’s a Chihuahua/rat terrier mix. They called him a Chia Rat. icon wink Thrifting “lady date”

We had such a great day with him. He slept ALL night last night and didn’t make a peep! We had a great visit to the vet – and he’s really healthy. (That was a relief!) And tonight he “went” outside for the first time! (TWICE!) It was like potty training the Bub all over again – so exciting!! icon wink Thrifting “lady date”

Anyway, we’re figuring things out as we go. One thing I know for sure is that he LOVES our son so very very much. OH my…they are nuts about each other. It brings tears to my eyes every time I watch them together.

I’m finishing up a few things in the basement before I show you the difference decluttering made. icon smile Thrifting “lady date” Until then, I wanted to share some finds from my recent trip downtown Indy to Midland Arts and Antiques:

 Thrifting “lady date”

Three girlfriends and I went for a Saturday “lady date” – as one of my friends called it — (love that!) out to eat and then to Midland for some antiquing.

If you live near Indy and you love the thrill of the hunt…you MUST take a trip there. It’s an old (HUGE!) warehouse full of fabulous finds.

I snapped shots of a few things that caught my eye. As with most antique stores, you’ll find some good, bad and definitely ugly. icon smile Thrifting “lady date” You’ll also find real antiques, lots of vintage (especially mid-century modern right now) and also stuff you could also find at any Goodwill. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

I found a few clocks turned cloches:

 Thrifting “lady date”

Do they look familiar?:

 Thrifting “lady date”

The only difference – I bought my 80’s clock-turned-cloche for $3 at Goodwill, and these were both over $40 if I remember right. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

The fabulous light fixtures are endless! Some are funky:

 Thrifting “lady date”

If we had a wine cellar, I would totally put this there! But alas, we don’t. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

Some just need some spray paint and they’d be a close Pottery Barn knock off: Thrifting “lady date”

And check out this one:

 Thrifting “lady date”

SWOON! It looks SO similar to the one hanging in our dining room:

 Thrifting “lady date”

And mine was a knock off of another Pottery Barn light. I think the one at Midland is even bigger, and is the same price as our Home Depot light (now $180 I believe).

I found a gorgeous mirrored tray that would be stunning on any dresser or buffet:

 Thrifting “lady date”

And this mirror would be beautiful as is, painted a bright white or even an unexpected color:

 Thrifting “lady date”

I loved these cane side tables:

 Thrifting “lady date”

And I kept going back to this chair and ottoman:

 Thrifting “lady date”

They were in fantastic condition! I could totally see them in hubby’s office in the basement – but as  you know, I’m getting rid of stuff down there right now (for the impending finishing off of the space).

You’ll always find the downright weird too. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

Birds on display anyone?:

 Thrifting “lady date”

And these chairs in your dining room would be a conversation piece for sure!:

 Thrifting “lady date”

icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

I found a few goodies I took home from our trip, of course.

I loved this little bird cagey candleholder:

 Thrifting “lady date”

I won’t use it for candles though. I see a nest or something spring-like nestled in there. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

I have wanted a vintage fan forEVER…and this one caught my eye:

 Thrifting “lady date”

It was my biggest splurge of the day by far, at $25. I cleaned it up and considered spray painting it. But I also love it as is. Hmmm…

I thought this two-sided mirror was so sweet and dainty:

 Thrifting “lady date”

It’s the perfect addition to my Mom Cave. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

There were bins full of old Bingo cards:

 Thrifting “lady date”

I only grabbed three for an idea for the playroom. I’m thinking I could use more though.

And this little bunny letter opener was my favorite find of the day:

 Thrifting “lady date”

It was one of those things…I thought it was just adorable. It was only $2, so I couldn’t pass it up.

I had to leave midway through the shopping to get back to the sitter, but it was a good thing. I’m sure it would have been dangerous to stick around too much longer. icon smile Thrifting “lady date”

Sometime I’ll have to coordinate a shopping trip for local readers and bloggers – it’s a great afternoon of digging for goodies!

Have you found any great thrifting finds lately? Any good spots in your neck of the woods?

Year in review

Well chickees…this is my 99th post! Holy crap, I’m not kidding. Interesting, because I started this blog in May, and only had about 20 posts in my first four months. Shows you how into this bloggy stuff I got in about…September or so?
For my 100th post I have a very cute (but small) giveaway to give to one of you. Can’t wait to show you. It’s not really a big deal, just fun. icon smile Year in review
What’s with me just DYING to take down Christmas early this year? I usually wait till the 1st or after but I have been chomping at the BIT to get it down this year. What’s the deal? I can barely wait to get it up and LOVE it during the season. There is just something about this time of year though too — the clean, fresh house. I swear I fall it love with our home all over again right after the holidays. It’s so cleared out and simple.
So Jules over at The Roost is having a fun New Year’s Party that I thought would be fun to join. I put a different spin on it though, and picked the top ten commented posts to highlight here for your pleasure. (Or to help you take a nap, whatever works.)
Heeeeeeeere we GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

STUFF.

You know how when someone writes in all caps, you feel like they’re yelling at you?

Well, I wrote this post title in all caps so I can look back on it and yell…at myself.  icon wink STUFF.

First things first – I must start by telling you something very, very important…

I LIKE STUFF.

(No, I’m not yelling at you, I just like stuff.)

I like stuff around the house, I like buying stuff. Stuff makes me happy.

Not clutter, just stuff. Pretty stuff. Stuff I like. I would like to think I’m normal. (I know, I know — that is up for discussion.)  icon smile STUFF.

This week has changed something in me though – nothing crazy, like I’m going to live with only 100 items (I’ve read many articles about folks doing that lately – and I don’t think they’re crazy, I just know it would be crazy for ME.)

As most of you know, we lost my sweet father-in-law last week, and we started the process of going through his home to decide what to keep, toss, donate, sell, etc. The process has been a bit overwhelming – not because his house is overly cluttered, but because it’s just 50 years of STUFF. Fifty years!

It really made me stop and think – why I keep the things I do, why I’ve kept certain items for 25 years, why I buy the things I do. I didn’t really have a good answer to any of it. icon smile STUFF.

But I was on a mission – I went after the basement with new eyes. I started the process back in January and made HUGE strides, but I still hadn’t completed it. And now I am on a get-rid-of-stuff binge like you’ve never seen. icon wink STUFF.

In just a couple of days, I had another car load ready for Goodwill:

 STUFF.

I looked at our things with a whole new light – and realized some of my issues when it comes to stuff.

First – THE TOYS. Oh dear Lord in heaven, help me, the TOYS. Do I need to say more?

I never know when to get rid of them…there are toys we’ve had for years that I see the Bub play with every now and again, and I hesitate to donate them. For so long now, I’ve figured if he plays with it, we should keep it around.

A few weeks ago I did a little experiment. I packed away a ton of the little toys, (the ones that drive you a teeny bit cuckoo) and some big ones as well. And guess what – he didn’t even notice they were gone. For weeks.

Imagine that. icon wink STUFF.

Now there’s certain toys where this totally wouldn’t fly. But 95 percent of them are out of sight out of mind. So two lawn trash bags later, I attacked them with a new mindset:

 STUFF.

I realized something else – my son’s toys sometimes mean more to me than to him. I feel an attachment to them as well. I have NO idea why – maybe because I buy most of them? Because I remember who gave him this or that for his birthday? Because I am the one who found it for a steal at Goodwill? Who knows. I know I need to let go of them like I do anything else in the house.

Speaking of Goodwill, I realized another culprit when it comes to the stuff in our home – and it’s a biggie.

Obviously, I like to shop “thrifty” – but thrifty can get you in trouble. Anyone who knows Goodwill shopping knows if you see something you like, you’d better grab it right this second. Many times I’ve walked past something I wanted, shopped through the rest of the store and gone back to get it and it’s gone. (Curses!!)

So I grab things, buy them and always figure, if I can’t use it, I’ll return it. But the seven day return policy KILLS me – I hardly ever get things back on time. And in my head, I tell myself it’s OK because “It was only $2.99.” Or $1.99. Or $4.99. But all of those .99’s add up. icon smile STUFF.

And then I want to hold on to each thing I didn’t return (and oh yeah, didn’t NEED it) because I paid for it! What in the world? My thought process is whack!

I love to shop consignment shops as well – and most of these shops have NO return policy. You just can’t do it. I have to be pretty positive I’m going to use something before I buy it, but there’s still items that don’t work and then I’m stuck with them.

So I keep them. Cause I paid for them, right?:

 STUFF.

You see my evil cycle yet? icon smile STUFF.

I think the biggest issue I have is also due to the thrifty in me – the whole oh NO but what if I may need it one day syndrome. Stuff I bought years ago, and used for years…it served it’s purpose in our home. I keep it because what if one day I need JUST THAT ITEM. What if got rid of it? What would happen?!

The Earth may just fall off it’s axis.

Dear. Lord.

I found plenty of things that I’ve kept for months or years without using or even thought about using, and they were off to Goodwill with the rest of the lot:

 STUFF.

And guess what – over the past few months after at least 10 car loads to Goodwill and local shelters, there’s been ONE time when I needed something I had donated. And it cost all of $5 to replace.

I have a new mantra when it comes to our stuff when I’m determining what to donate, keep and what to BUY. It must serve a purpose, be something I enjoy and currently use or will (definitely, no doubt) use in the future, and if it’s a sentimental item, it must be truly important enough to me to use up valuable storage space.

And isn’t it funny how you don’t realize something is sentimental to you until you go through the storage bins every few years? Then, it’s all awwww, I loved this insert-thing-from-middle-school-here so much! Most of the time, I don’t remember that thing I loved so much until I see it. icon smile STUFF.

As I continue to go through the basement and the rest of the house (I’m still going!), I have been asking myself if we really need it. Then I ask myself again, NO, do we really need it?

Then I ask again — “For reals, Sarah. DO YOU REALLY NEED THIS?”

(See? Yelling at myself. In caps. In my head.)

It’s been an emotional couple of weeks for us, and I find that going through the clutter always, always soothes my soul. I literally feel like our house is lighter when I walk in the door. I feel lighter. I know it may sound crazy, but I really believe purging stuff creates space to breathe in your house and in your head.  icon smile STUFF.

So are you attached to stuff like me? Do you hold on to things for the reasons I mentioned? Or are you a constant purger? Do you follow the one item in, one item out rule? If so, you are my hero. I’m learning. icon smile STUFF.

The top ten of ‘10

Well, the end is near. The end of the year that is. icon smile The top ten of ‘10

I had a great time recapping my top ten posts last year, and this year my friend Rhoda is having a whole linky party dedicated to the biggest and best projects of 2010.

So, without further adieu, here’s my top ten of this year, based on your comments! FUN!

First up was the start of our master bedroom redo. It was all about the bedding and I splurged big time on it. Cause we really like to sleep. Like, a lot.

The previous $25 Ebay bedding:

 The top ten of ‘10

Was replaced with new duds from Pottery Barn and Target:

 The top ten of ‘10

We did like the old set just fine – it just didn’t fit the bed. Huh. To say we love the change is a HUGE understatement. We quite literally melt into bed every night.

There’s been quite a few more changes to the room since that post, like new lighting, drapes and accessories. You can see all of that here.

And if you want to see how I used to make our bed, click here. (It still makes me giggle to read that. And want to cry just a little bit.)

Next up was our mini family room redo:

 The top ten of ‘10

A new HomeGoods rug made ALL the difference in the world in there! LURVE.

Next up, a project that was FREE and made such a huge difference in our dining room. I showed you how I removed this hutch:

 The top ten of ‘10

And found the beautiful buffet underneath:

 The top ten of ‘10

I framed out the mirror myself, and because everything else was so cheap, I splurged on those GORG lamps. (From HomeGoods. Shock.)

You and I both loved my incredible Craigslist find in the family room – it completely updated a wall from this:

To this:

 The top ten of ‘10

My new-to-me Drexel dresser was only $100, and it is one of my very favorite pieces in our house now. And it holds a bunch of toys. All the more reason to love it. icon smile The top ten of ‘10

I finished a long, long, LONG process of taking our builder-grade kitchen island:

 The top ten of ‘10

To a beadboard-wrapped, cabinet-painted, Ikea butcher-blocked one:

 The top ten of ‘10

You can see the details of the transformation here, and the updates I’ve made to our kitchen this year here.

Speaking of the kitchen, you all loved when I took our basic, white pantry door and replaced it with a glass-paneled beauty:

 The top ten of ‘10

The (awful) night shot above shows it with the contact paper installed for privacy, and the light inside (which we wired up and I’ll show you soon!)

We have an unfinished basement that we treat as if it’s finished. We USE it. A lot. I showed you how my craft “room” looked before:

 The top ten of ‘10

And then with some organization, fabric, and more lighting:

 The top ten of ‘10

LOVE it! icon smile The top ten of ‘10 You can see more here.

The next one really isn’t a particular project, but it resonated with many of you (and me!). It was a post about STUFF:

 The top ten of ‘10

My father-in-law’s passing (and the week’s after) changed me. I’ve learned a lot about the STUFF and my emotional responses to it since then, and I’ll tell you more about that soon too.

The final two projects of the year were the ones you loved the most! First, the transformation of the Bub’s nursery to a big boy (airplane) room:

 The top ten of ‘10

It is so clean and classic and crisp – I fall in love with it again every day. You can see the process to redo that room here.

And finally, my biggest DIY project to date, that was also my cheapest. icon smile The top ten of ‘10 I love when that happens!! I took our stairs from this before:

To this, with just about $30:

Well, the stairs were $30 – the molding on the wall was a bit more later, but the whole project was still under $60. It helped that I had the paint, stain, and beautiful curved treads under that carpet. icon wink The top ten of ‘10

BUT…all the hard work kind of evened out the money saved. icon smile The top ten of ‘10 It took some major sweat and TIME.

I’d do it all over again though – it’s still my very favorite project I’ve tackled in our home. SO WORTH IT. You can see the whole slew of posts about the stairs here.

A deck reveal!

Finally, I know!! I’m finally going to show you our deck transformation. If you’ve been following me on Twitter you know I’ve been talking about this for the past week, and I know I’ve mentioned it here just a few times over the past month or so.

It started a month or so ago with a few ideas in my little head. We weren’t planning on doing the big stuff till later on. We just thought it would just be too expensive. Enter my friend Beckie over at Infarrantly Creative. We had lunch last week, and were talking about her new deck. She had passed along the name of the guy on Craigslist who had sold her her new outdoor furniture. I looooved it, and while I was down on the southsiiiiiiiide with her she reminded me the guy lived right down the street and to give him a call…

So I did, and that lunch turned into the most expensive lunch in the history of mankind. I got the deck furniture that day and stuffed my SUV to the gills with it. Then the next day, we went to Menards looking for the pergola Beckie and her husband had purchased as well. Found it — SCORE!!

And then the whole deck just came together. We. are. thrilled. I thought I would share a pic of the deck when we first built it five years ago:

A deck reveal! It’s massive. Like 40 by 20 feet, massive. I browsed through deck books and found exactly how I wanted to stain it. Then we found a table and chairs set and a firepit that we’ve used since:

deck+before A deck reveal! I love the redwood and white combo on the deck. Luuuurve it. Just a little bit of advice to my peeps out there — wait as LONG as possible to stain pretreated wood (months). We did not know this and did it almost immediately after the deck was built. NOT a good idea. Now we have to restain it every year. Fabulous. Oh, and I would not recommend a firepit on a wood deck. We had a screen that went over the top but it always stressed me out. Yikes. Fire + wood = not the smartest move.
So anyhoo…the deck now looks like this:
A deck reveal!Say it with me…ahhhhhhhhh. Oh good heavens we LOVE IT! We have wanted to build a pergola for years now. The sun is beating on the deck pretty much all day long, and it is very uncomfortable all summer. But this pergola is even better than a wood one — we can close it or open it for shade:

A deck reveal! The deck furniture is exactly what I wanted for this space. I mean, couldn’t be more perfect:

A deck reveal! It was $450 for seven pieces. It is soooo comfy. I wanted to do rust, olive and brown colors out here, and the umbrella we got is a rust color. But of course I can’t find any pillows that work now, because everything is gone out of the stores! I’ve seen exactly what I wanted all summer but now they are all gone. (Do I need to remind the stores it’s still July?) So I got what I could find — some rust and some green and brown. They don’t work together at all. A deck reveal! But as hubby said, “We can use the red ones in the fall and the green and brown ones are more summery!” Ummmmm….who is this man?? Who took my husband? “More summery?” What kills me is he’s RIGHT. icon smile A deck reveal!
We have spent more time on the deck in the past four days then all summer. I dare say, the past year. Seriously. We. are. in. love.
A deck reveal! The second part of the transformation was the part I started first. The back of our home is just an expanse of siding. Bor-ring:

backbefore A deck reveal! And the back door was equally as drab:

baybefore A deck reveal! So I made some shutters that match the front of our house: A deck reveal!Ack! I love them!! I have been looking for window boxes EVERYWHERE and everyone is out of them. (Shocker.) I found two tonight but need a couple more…I’m checking around.
I also painted out the trim around the back door, changed out the light, bought a new mat (that was my color inspiration) and added some potted plants to warm up that area:

A deck reveal! I cannot even tell you how different this space is now. It is truly another room. Our favorite time is at dusk/night:

Later this week I’ll show you all the details. There are some major steals I can’t wait to share! Hope you enjoyed the tour, and thanks for putting up with me!

Domino Coffee Table from SIDD

SIDD Domino Domino Coffee Table from SIDD2 days ago Chris Pritchard made a comment on the this blog so off I went to checkout his profile to find out he is a designer..

We love comments on this blog and this is the case in point.. Look what I found!

The Domino Coffee is a great design.. Simple but eye catching.

This would create a great focal point for a living area and even better in a office loby. The cross over of wood and glass off the combination of tradition and contemporary.
